Each year Women & Leadership Australia (WLA) provide scholarships through their Female Leader’s Scholarship program, to enable women at all management levels to participate in their career building leadership courses. For early-career managers, they offer the “Leading Edge” program, for mid-level managers they offer “Executive Ready” and for senior and executive leaders they offer the “Advanced Leadership Program”.
The Grants Hub recently reached out to Bethany Smith, who is the Partnerships Coordinator at United Way Australia, to find out about her experience with the Female Leader’s Scholarship program. We started by asking her how she found out about the initiative, and she indicated that she actually received “an email from the Grants Hub that drew my attention to the program and the Scholarship”.
Bethany participated in the Leading Edge program, which is designed to enable the transition of aspiring and early career female managers into confident, capable and motivated leaders. The program ran over the first half of 2020, and we asked Bethany how she found the leadership program. She said that “the program was eye-opening and insightful, providing me with different theories and techniques to help me grow as a leader within my organisation”.
We asked Bethany how the opportunity has impacted on her leadership opportunities, “I am in a position where I am ready to move into more leadership roles, and thanks to the program, I am more equipped and confident to do so. I am extremely grateful to the Female Leader’s Scholarship program as I would not have been able to participate in the Leading Edge program without it and am excited to further my career as a leader”.
