Australia Post Community Grants Open Tomorrow!

The Australia Post Community Grants Program is a fan favourite at The Grants Hub. Not only is this grant highly popular with our grants community, but our growing relationship with the program delivery team has given us insight into the genuine care they have for supporting locally-led, mental health initiatives.

Australia Post also wants to make the grant application process easy, so you won't find overly complex application forms and processes with these Community Grants. Kudos to Australia Post!

Opening 10am tomorrow, 10 June 2025, and closing Monday 7 July 2025, these grants up to $10,000 will end (or start!) your financial year on a high.

One of the favourite parts of my job is getting to connect with funding providers. Here's what Community Programs Advisor and manager of the grant program, Alice Coombes, had to share about the Australia Post Community Grants Program for 2025.

Jessie
Founder of The Grants Hub

Australia Post is offering grants up to $10,000 for mental health and wellbeing. We love this! Can you tell us more about the program?

The Australia Post Community Grants program supports local community organisations across Australia who run projects to help people connect and stay mentally well. Each year, not-for-profit community groups can apply to receive a grant of up to $10,000 for local, community-led projects that connect individuals and communities to improve mental health and mental wellbeing.

In the past, we've funded groups like All Stars for Autism, Be Hers, African Women’s Federation of SA, Waves of Wellness and Red Dust Role Models, who are all driving amazing community-led mental health and mental wellbeing projects.

We're aware of a significant expansion to the grants program this year. Can you tell us more about that?

Yes! This year, Australia Post is offering (up to) an additional $250,000 in grants to support disaster-impacted communities across Australia. These funds will be dedicated to projects that enhance mental wellbeing, foster connection, and build resilience within these communities.

Why does Australia Post provide these grants?

With a presence in every community, Australia Post plays a vital role in helping Australians prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. Our newly expanded Community Grants program further demonstrates our commitment to disaster recovery, supporting community cohesion and connection.

We know that being connected and being part of a community is vital to maintaining good mental health and wellbeing.

Why types of projects and activities do you fund?

Grants must be spent on activities or expenses with the primary purpose of directly improving connection and mental wellbeing of individuals within a community.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Communications, including website setup, online forums, newsletters and advertising
  • Equipment, supplies or materials, including electronic equipment (e.g. tools, computers and tablets)
  • Project evaluation
  • Outreach and referral support
  • Program coordination and facilitation
  • Refreshments
  • Skills development, training and workshops
  • Travel costs for participants
  • Venue hire, including furniture hire/purchase.

What type of organsations can apply for the Australia Post Community Grant? Do they need to have DGR status (tax deductibility status)? Can social enterprises apply?

Organisations must be an incorporated not-for-profit to apply. We don't require applicants to have DGR status - as long as you’re an incorporated not-for-profit organisation you can apply.

Not-for-profit social enterprises are eligible if 100% of profits are directed back into the business to support the mission.

Last year Australia Post received over 1,400 applications! Do you have any tips for helping applicants stand out?

My top tips are:
  1. Make sure your project meets all three objectives (mental health is the primary focus, the project helps people meaningfully connect and is locally-led and delivered)
  2. Ensure your budget contains enough detail and that income and expenses match. The good news is budgets in 2025 looked better than 2024!
  3. Simple is best. Use short, concise language that will be easily read by assessors who are processing a large number of applications
  4. Your application should clearly outline the community need your project is addressing, why the approach is effective and where relevant, include evidence (such as statistics, surveys, or research)

And a quick wrap of the grant details for people to share with a group or organisation they know?
